LIFTING DAY!!!  Chest and Biceps.  I never used to be a “split body parts” kinda gal.  For those not familiar with that term, it refers not to some zombie eating plan, but to lifting for a couple of body parts each workout, versus a FULL body workout each time.

WHY?  Well, I am trying something new.  I have begun a plan to INCREASE my muscle mass.  Why, again?  A few reasons…

  • As we age, #thisis48, strength training helps maintain our bone density – think LACK OF broken hips.
  • You’ve heard the saying “muscle weighs more than fat”…that always makes me laugh. Think about it.  A pound of muscle and a pound of fat weigh…….well…….a pound.  The expression SHOULD say something about how a pound of muscle or fat LOOKS.
    • Try this – close your hand in a fist….that’s a pound of muscle.  NOW, open your hand about 80% of the way.  That’s a pound of fat.  Which would you rather put in your jeans?
  • It FEELS DAMN good.  Unlike the “high” I get from running, there is a feeling that lifting gives that I can’t get from running.  It’s a feeling of power, both physical and emotional.

As the month comes quickly to a close, think about what YOU feel from your workouts. When do you feel best?  Could you feel better?  What struggles are you facing?
