Paperbacks and “FIT-ness” have a lot in common…
During our vacation last month I read an actual book. Not on a Kindle or a tablet…a paperback book. I LOVE technology, ask anyone who knows me, I really do.
Newer isn’t always better, however. Reading the paperback was so cool…I could flip back and quickly find a passage that I had read before…I could get right back to the table of contents and check out how far I had gotten and how far I had to go.
It got me thinking about exercise (yeah, I know, that’s weird).
It’s easy to be intimidated by all the “new” stuff out there…gadgets and workouts and classes to try…but when you break any and all of it down, however, it really comes down to
WHAT WORKS IS WHAT YOU WILL DO.
Clients come to me ALL. THE. TIME…”My friend did Insanity, Orange Theory, P90X, etc., etc., and GOT FIT.” REALLY?? SO you’re telling me that someone worked out an hour a day for 90 days and IT WORKED?!?!!? CRAZY.
No kidding.
So what makes the difference? Regardless of the exercise, old or “new” – it is the FIT:
FREQUENCY – How OFTEN are you doing it?
- Is it 3 times one week and then once a week for the next two? OR
- 3 times a week for 12 weeks?
INTENSITY – Are you WORKING HARD?
- Are you strolling from exercise to exercise OR
- Pushing yourself through one to the next?
TIME – Hour-long workouts AREN’T necessary, but…
- Are you working out for 10 minutes, doing 10 repetitions of an exercise and saying “that’s enough”? OR
- Going for the entire 30 minutes and finishing all 20 reps.
THAT acronym (not mine, by the way, commonly used) is the key to exercise making you FEEL better, exercise making you LOOK better and/or achieve a HIGHER LEVEL OF FITNESS.
Regardless of where you are on the “fitness spectrum”…moving forward is a function of of FIT.
