WOW! This summer has gone by FAST! Hard to believe that our high schoolers will be starting their fall sports in a matter of WEEKS.

I don’t know about your kids, but mine – AND one of my friend’s – have not followed the plan laid out by their coaches at the beginning of the summer.

Now, let me first say, I have a TREMENDOUS amount of respect for coaches at ALL levels…specifically high school sports. That being said, the summer workout plans that I have seen over the years are…how can I put this nicely?…CRAZZZZY intense. Without pointing fingers or naming names, I have seen schedules from my own girls’ school to ones clear across the country and that is the one thing they have in common – REALLY intense.

Part of me firmly believes that the coaches know going in that a VERY small percentage of their athletes will a) follow the plan and an even smaller percentage will b) follow it to the letter. Maybe that’s why they are written that way, with the hope that SOME of it will get done at SOME level.

Perhaps the intensity of the schedule scares some kids off. Who knows.

What I DO know is

  • We are heading toward the END of summer.
  • We as parents want to make sure our athletes are READY for tryouts and the season!
  • We as parents are NOT WILLING to pay $85 an hour for a trainer to do the work.
  • We as parents NEED a SOLUTION that our kids can take the lead on.
  • We as parents NEED our kids to be SAFE!

When I’m writing a program, regardless of the client, I have 3 objectives (#SEE).

  • SAFETY
  • EFFECTIVENESS
  • EFFICIENCY

Let me explain how “Fall Fire Up” covers all of those bases.

SAFETY – I have been an ACE-certified Personal Trainer for over 13 years. In order to maintain that certification I continue to take courses, read books and learn from other trainers. ALL of this knowledge is a part of EACH and EVERY program I write. The INTENSITY is in “Fall Fire Up”, but so is safety. Taking breaks, as needed; starting with a weight that may be too light to make sure that your form is correct – those are important aspects of assuring that you enter the season not only FIT, but INJURY-FREE!!

EFFECTIVENESS – With those 13 years of experience I have learned what works and doesn’t work. Without going into a crazy amount of science here, let’s just say that when it comes to cardio, INTERVAL training is shown to increase ENDURANCE and SPEED. Endurance and speed are essential for making a great first impression at your athlete’s first practice. STRENGTH builds muscles to give you ENDURANCE (again), helps protect you from injuries, and sets you up for an ability to build muscle EASIER throughout your life. (Studies show that the earlier you start building muscle, the easier it is throughout your life to MAINTAIN that muscle with continued training.)

EFFICIENCY – Whether it’s for a teenager who has “better things” to do than workout for hours at a time, or YOU who DOES have better things to do than workout for hours at a time, I believe in a “GET IN, GET OUT” mentality when it comes to training. I want to spend my time as efficiently as possible. My programs are written to get the most out of you in the shortest amount of time possible.
